Innovative Facade Solutions using External Wall Insulation

RIBA CPD
Duration: 45 minutes
Available via Teams, Zoom or in person
This CPD seminar explains how external wall systems offer a different method of thermally cladding new and existing buildings whilst enabling complete flexibility of building design. Topics covered include the definition of an external wall insulation (EWI) or "ETICs" systems, commonly, but incorrectly refered to in the UK as "insulated render" ( because a wide range of other finishes such as brick, 3D elements, ceramics and even stone tiles are available), the benefits of insulating externally, important criteria to consider when specifying.
By the end of the CPD you should have a greater understanding of:
- The benefits of an EWI system in comparison to alternative insulation technologies available
- How to match the appropriate solution to the building specification requirement
- Detailing an EWI solution with a range of surface finishes.
The CPD includes references to:-
the refurbishment of the Verseidag Building, Krefeld originally designed by Mies van der Rohe.
