Acoustics: Wellbeing and Soundscapes of the everyday

Soundscapes provide the soundtrack to our everyday lives; the birds at your window, the sound of the tube, the distant laughter of children playing or the typing of keys in the office. Conscious of it or not, we are constantly surrounded by sounds. Yet when we think about the qualities of comfortable spaces, we do not necessarily prioritise sound. Perhaps, because it is invisible to the eye or intangible to our grip, it has become commonplace to overlook the power of acoustics and the role innovative materials and forms have in manipulating and balancing sound within a space.

Noise has a great impact on our physical and mental health. Having the ability to finely tune sounds within a space can help to create relaxing, productive, and more enjoyable environments that support our wellbeing.

What does comfort sound like? How can acoustics contribute to creating workplace and education environments that are conducive to productivity? How can acoustics support wellbeing?
