Guest Speakers:
Manijeh Verghese and Madeleine Kessler, Unscene Architecture, Co-curators of the British Pavilion 2020.
Seetal Solanki, Founder of Ma-tt-er and author of Why Materials Matter.
Anna Mansfield, Director of Strategy and Research, Publica.
The debate explores the role that architects have in rethinking what privatised public spaces could be, as well as the tools that they can give the public to help navigate issues such as ownership, planning and access rights. It asked what role materials play in opening up privatised public spaces for new users, activities or to create a sense of belonging, as well as how the immateriality of certain aspects of privatised public space presents a challenge to architects and users?
Sto are proud sponsors of the British Pavilion exhibition for the Venice Biennale. As a global architectural system and material manufacturer we are honoured to be in dialogue with the curators, Madeleine Kessler and Manijeh Verghese (Unscene Architecture) about what privatised public space could be and to reflect on our own contribution to the materiality, comfort and health of our shared spaces today and in the future.
